Wescan was a proud partner with the MYR Group and Manitoba Hydro to provide our electrical services on the 230 KVA switch yard located at the Keewatinohk Converter Station just north of Gillam, MB. This new yard is about the size of 13 football fields and provides over 40% of province’s peak electricity demand.
The Keewatinohk Switch yard is helping to improve Manitoba Hydro’s overall system reliability and dependability. It is an integral part of the Bipole III project which starts at the Keewatinohk converter station (north of Gillam MB), delivers electricity from northern generating stations along the Nelson River and to Manitoba Hydro customers in the South, ending at the Riel Converter Station near Winnipeg.
The scope of work on this project included building and wiring the 300 and 400 amp disconnect switches, post insulators, CT’s, CUT’s and Breakers.
In addition to putting control out to all the devices from the control buildings and terminating all the cables, Wescan also installed the piping for the duct bank system and installed on the ground grid system.
