Canadian Museum for Human Rights
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is a state of the art national museum, the first outside of Ottawa. It is targeting LEED Silver certification.
Our Electrical Construction Division has been involved in many iconic Manitoba projects over the last 45 years.
Commitment to providing customer service excellence has been at the forefront of our growth. Our approach to electrical construction includes the incorporation of the latest technologies in power distribution, building management, metering solutions, energy codes, and greenhouse gas reduction for a variety of market sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, and institutional disciplines.
When bidding on a “Bid Spec” project, Wescan reviews the specifications in detail to determine the scope of work and provides a cost estimate of the project. This involves reviewing blueprints and schematics, conducting site visits to assess the electrical infrastructure, and consulting with other contractors and suppliers to determine pricing for materials and equipment.
This project delivery method is used to provide a single source of responsibility for the design and construction of the project. Wescan offers comprehensive solutions through our in-house design team that will work closely with our construction teams throughout all aspects of the project. Our Design Build process is highly advantageous as we streamline the project timeline, reduce project risk, and promote collaboration with the owner.
Unlike the design-build approach, the design-assist method involves input and recommendations from the owners’ design team to develop the initial design concept. Throughout the design process, Wescan will suggest alternatives or modifications to the design to improve its functionality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
A well-designed lighting and controls system can improve energy efficiency, enhance occupant comfort and safety, and reduce maintenance costs. By leveraging advanced technologies such as LED light sources, sensors, and automation, lighting and controls systems can be optimized to meet the needs of a variety of spaces and applications. Our in-house design team can provide engineered solutions for lighting projects of any size.
These systems are designed to ensure that electrical power is delivered safely, reliably, and efficiently to all areas of the building or facility. Wescan employs a team of electrical designers and detailers to provide knowledge and experience on designing and implementing power distribution systems such as transformers, switchgear, and protective devices to regulate and protect the electrical power.
Fire alarm systems are critical for ensuring the safety of building occupants and reducing the risk of property damage. Wescan has extensive knowledge of the networking of devices, including smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual pull stations, and audible and visual alarms. We also provide services for monitoring and control equipment, such as fire alarm control panels, annunciator panels, and communication devices.
Trust our team to deliver innovative solutions, exceptional craftsmanship, and reliable performance on every project.
Call NowThese solutions are designed to integrate different electrical systems and networks into a single, unified system that will work together seamlessly to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall performance.
Converge Networks involve the integration of different electrical and communication systems, such as voice, data, and video into a single network infrastructure. This integration can provide significant benefits, such as reduced cabling costs, improved network security, and easier management of network resources.
Integration solutions include the incorporation of different systems and technologies into a single, combined system. This can include lighting and HVAC systems, security systems, and fire alarm systems.
In addition to the lightning rods, conductors, and ground rods, lightning protection systems may also include surge protection devices and other protective equipment, such as transient voltage surge suppressors (TVSS) to protect sensitive electrical equipment from damage caused by lightning strikes and other electrical disturbances.
Proper installation and maintenance of lightning protection systems is critical to ensure their effectiveness. The system must be installed in accordance with local building codes and industry standards and must be inspected regularly to ensure that it remains in good working order.
These systems are designed to monitor and control various processes and equipment in a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, oil and gas, and power generation.
Instrumentation and control wiring involves the installation of specialized cables, wires, and connectors that are used to connect sensors, switches, and other devices to control systems. These devices may include pressure sensors, temperature sensors, flow meters, level sensors, and other types of monitoring and control equipment.
Our Electrical Design manager has over 47 years of experience in the electrical field and has completed some of the most complex electrical designs in Manitoba.
The work of our electrical engineers involves using principles of physics and mathematics to analyze, design, and troubleshoot electrical systems. They design electrical components such as transformers, motors, and generators, as well as develop systems for controlling and protecting these components. They also work on developing and improving communication and computer systems, such as wireless networks and computer hardware.

The Skills Trades and Technology Centre is a milestone achievement in the history of Red River College. Totaling approximately 100,000 square feet, the STTC has new laboratory and shop space and classrooms for up to 1000 students per year in high demand trades and technologies.
Electrical installations consisted of state of the art lighting, building control systems, energy efficient distribution systems and life safety systems.
Scope of work included installation of the lighting system, energy efficient sport lighting system, building control systems, communication systems, energy efficient distribution system, state of the art entertainment system (including jumbo-tron), and life safety systems.
Wescan installed electrical, communications, fire alarm and complete wiring of the cyclotron unit.
The JC Wilt Infectious Diseases Research Centre is an enhanced Level II Laboratory for use by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).
For the Red River College Innovation Center project Wescan BIM modeled to 95% which enabled us to prefabricate 87% of the electrical installation. This included support system, conduit packages, wall assemblies, lighting fixtures, panels and transformers.
Wescan’s scope of work included all mechanical, electrical and structural systems.
