Canada Life TP-06 project was done as a design assist collaboration between NTAG, Bockstael, SMS, Nortec and Wescan to decommission an existing steam power plant and upgrade to a new natural gas hot water power plant, along with a replacement and centralization of the Chiller Plant at Canada Life campus on 60/80/100 Osborne. Steam to Hot Water Heating switch over was phased to accommodate the ongoing renovations on campus. Project was completed with on time fabrication delivery, to allow for no storage or C-Can’s on site as the project was completed while the building was occupied.

SCOPE OF WORK
  • Demolition of building 60/80/100 Chilled Water Plants, which consisted of 2 Cooling Towers, 4 chillers and 20 pumps
  • Installation of new Central Chiller Plant, which included 3 cooling towers, 3-400 Ton chillers, 16 pumps and integration of an existing Heat Recovery Chiller
  • Demolition and Replacement of all chiller room piping, along with condenser piping from the basement to roof in building 60
  • Demolition of existing steam power plant, which consisted of 3 boilers, 8 pumps, and condensate system
  • Installation of new Central Boiler Plant, which includes 4 Boilers, 8 pumps, 4 Heat Exchangers
  • Demolition of existing steam/condensate piping to building 60/80/100 and replacement with new hot water piping
  • New Breaching for boilers was installed inside of the original existing 70-year-old chimney, with only an opening required at the base
  • Demolition of existing steam domestic hot water system which included 3 storage tanks and 3 Heat Exchangers
  • Installation of new domestic water system which includes 2 storage tanks and 1 heat exchanger
  • Complete overhaul of their existing controls system, which has been upgraded to a smart building
