Gillam Rec Centre

This project was a complete renovation of an 80,000 plus sq. ft. multi-purpose building; housing a newly renovated hockey rink, curling rink and gymnasium. The renovation also included a new 3200 sq. ft. addition to the hockey arena consisting of (4) new change rooms and a maintenance area, as well as a new 2 level structure added to the front of the building complete with a new elevator for access to the 2nd level.

The entire building was renovated to include a library, weight room, theater, a play room, offices and meeting rooms. The rebuild also included a fully equipped commercial kitchen and bar/upper level viewing lounge for the curling area. The original building was constructed in the late 60’s and required an extensive abatement process completed prior to our work starting.

The entire electrical system was replaced from the main transformer and 2000A distribution to new lighting and devices throughout.  All areas were brought up to today’s codes and standards. A new fire alarm system, Voice, data and wireless access points were also added LED lighting with a dimming control systems for lighting control in each of the rinks and gymnasium; along occupancy sensors and daylight sensors. The entire building was upgraded with new plumbing, drainage, controls and HVAC. There were over 40 new heat pumps added for heat throughout the building, utilizing a one pipe boiler system.

A major fire occurred in December, 2017 affecting the entire construction process, creating delays while the effects of the fire were assessed and repaired prior to construction resuming.
