Great West Life Data Centre

This was construction of a new Data Center to replace a downtown facility. This Center houses all of the data for Great West Life across Canada.

In a 68,000 square foot building built in 2011 in the St Boniface Industrial Park —- Wescan was the electrical contractor to install:

  • 1-25 kV distribution to feed the new complex C/W redundant feeds to a Vista 615-29KV
  • Data distribution to feed the data center C/W with redundant feeds.
  • 2 -1500 KVA 25kV-600V transformers feeding 2 – 2000 amp 600V services with integral ATS switches connected with 2 -1500 KVA gensets. Both systems are tied together to operate each other in case of power failure and or maintenance.
  • All 14 breakers are motor controlled for sequencing loads.
  • 2- 750KVA UPS’s connected to the 2000 amp gear with static by passes and C/W with a 2000 amp DC battery supply.
  • UPS’s are feeding 1200 amp distributions feeding all data floor power requirements.
  • 8-300kva Power Distribution Units feeding a multitude of Remote 208/120 v Distribution panels for the Data racks servers.
  • Also involved was all the building services for occupancy.
SCOPE OF WORK

This building was built for an F4 tornado.  It was a very quick schedule and was accomplished in time and was mentioned by the Engineer from the USA — who specializes in Data centers to be of the best accomplished they have seen.
