Milner Ridge Correctional Centre

Wescan was obtained to perform the Mechanical Installation for a new medium security penitentiary in Milner Ridge Manitoba This was a green field facility that was project managed and fast tracked by PCL Constructors Canada. Through careful planning and collaboration with the owners and contractors we were able to start and complete this project within 14 months even with the unique requirements of a penitentiary.

Mechanical components consisted of complete HVAC system including a ground source heating and cooling system and complete plumbing systems.

Mitigated issues on site

  • Due to unforeseen site conditions and contract changes this project was delayed by over 5 months. We worked with Corrections Manitoba, the consultant team and the general contractor to reduce this delay to only 1 month.
  • Because of the Site delays we had to commission some of the systems with inmates already in the facility. We were able to Work with Corrections Manitoba to accomplish this.
  • There was an issue with the existing geothermal system after the Corrections Manitoba took possession of the building. We worked with the consultant team and Corrections Manitoba over the next 6 months to correct the mechanical system.
