Merit Foods

Wescan was engaged by Bird to provide the base building mechanical services for a groundbreaking, plant-based food processing facility. This facility will be the first of its kind in the world to take canola & green peas and turn them into plant-based protein for human consumption.

Merit was a BIM project; Wescan took the engineers’ 100BIM level conceptual model to a 400BIM level model for full trade coordination. Wescan also used this model to facilitate a pre-fabrication level of 95% for all systems, which reduced the amount of material stored on-site.

SCOPE OF WORK
  • Installation of a 26MBTU owner-supplied Cleaver Brooks Steam Boiler. High Pressure Steam Piping throughout the plant for process equipment needs. Low Pressure Steam System installed for building heat
  • Supply and Installation of Compressed Air System throughout plant for process and facility needs
  • Domestic & Softened Water System for process & facility needs
  • Installation of High Pressure Natural Gas System throughout the building. Coordinate OFC start-ups of specialty Gas Fire Equipment
  • HVAC Installation throughout plant for process and facility needs
  • Standalone Mechanical Building Controls
  • Installation of Plant Waste Water Neutralization Plant to treat outgoing wastewater
